The current status of the municipal budget doesn’t meet the 2% mandated revenue cap.  The current budget is subject to modification and is yet to be finalized.  The 2012 municipal budget may be subject to a special referendum on April 17, 2012.

 This notice is not to suggest that a referendum is automatic only that the Mayor & Council reserve the right to suggest a referendum to the residents, details to follow.

NOTE:  Garbage & Bulky Waste will be picked up only on Mondays and Tuesdays during January, February, March and April.  Beginning May 1, 2012 garbage and bulky waste again begins 2 days a week pickup up to Fall which will go back to 1 day a week.

Mayor Patrick McHale has announced a free
weatherization assistance program  for residents of
the Borough of Bogota who qualify according to federal
income guidelines. The program is a national effort to
help homeowners and tenants improve the energy efficiency
of their homes. The program is administered locally
by the Bergen County Community Action Partnership,
BCCAP. You are urged to participate in this program
if you have trouble keeping your house or apartment
warm during the winter and cool in the
summer or if your energy bills are unusually high.
This is how it works.

Number 1: Be sure that you meet the income requirements:

Income Guidelines

Family Size       Yearly Gross Income
1                 $21,780.
2                 $29,420.
3                 $37,060.
4                 $44,700.
5                 $52,340.
6                 $59,980.
7                 $67,620.
8                 $75,260.

For family units of more than 8 members, add $3,820 for each member.
If you think you are slightly over the limit or you’re not sure what
your annual income is, fill out the application. Let BCCAP determine
if you are eligible.

Veterans who are receiving cash benefits and recipients of Temporary
Assistance to Needy Families, TANF, automatically qualify.

Number 2: Pick up an application packet from Borough Hall,
375 Larch Avenue, or at the Bergen County Community Action Partnership
office located at 241 Moore Street, Hackensack. Return your completed
application as quickly as possible to the BCCAP office.

Number 3: The Bergen County Community Action Partnership will make an
appointment for a technician to visit your home to perform an energy audit.
This is a way to examine your  home to see if air is leaking out through
the windows, doors, attic or any other penetrations. The furnace, boiler,
stove, refrigerator and water heater are also checked.  You will be
informed of the results of the audit.

Number 4: Expert mechanics will repair or replace faulty windows and doors,
install high-efficiency insulation and, if necessary, repair or replace boilers,
furnaces, refrigerators and water heaters.

The Mayor and Council unanimously support this program.
“The investment of these funds in the Borough  of Bogota is a major
help to our residents,” said Mayor McHale.  “If you feel that you may
qualify for this program, do not wait to pick up an application.
Do it today.”

Bogota Arbor Day Poster and Writing Contest Winners

On Friday April 29^th Arbor Day, the Bogota Environmental Commission awarded the Arbor Day Poster Contest Awards to fifth graders in St. Joseph Academy, Lillian M. Steen School and E. Roy Bixby School.  This year’s theme was: Speak for the Trees in art and literature.   Mayor Patrick McHale visited all three schools and presented the awards.  Bogota Environmental Commission Chairperson Daniele Fede attended on Friday and Commission member Nikki Spiegel attended on Tuesday.

A special thanks goes to Commission member Julie Meehan, who put the program together and had it distributed and picked up from the schools.

The poster winners at St. Joseph Academy were:  First Place – Stephanie Maure; Second Place – Kayla Mancini; Third Place – Jack Finucane; Honorable Mention – Nicole Beira and Molina Dundua.

The winners from Lillian M. Steen were: First Place – Lauren Pena; Second Place – Cindy Perpepaj; Third Place – Sarah Kanawi; Honorable Mention – Celia Gerhardt.

The winners from E. Roy Bixby School were: First Place – Melissa Cristaldo; Second Place – Jaelyn Grullon; Third Place – Cacike Estrada; Honorable Mention – Rachel Pulido and Madison Petersen.

The Mayor McHale also awarded the Arbor Day Writing Contest Awards to sixth graders in E. Roy Bixby School.  The award winners:  First Place – Leah Pimental; Second Place – Daniel Rivera; Third Place (tie) – Patrick Sunga and Jaclyn Villafuerte; Honorable Mention – Isaac Martinez and Samantha Gioiosa.

All fifth graders in all three schools and sixth graders in Bixby School were also given tree seedlings for planting at home.
