The Bogota Auxiliary Police, formerly the Bogota Police Reserves,
has been in existence since 1950.The name of the organization was changed
in 1989 to comply with State law. The Auxiliary Police fall under the State
Office of Emergency Management and are under the direct supervision of
the Bogota Chief of Police. The Chief of Police designates a regular Police
Officer to act as liaison between the Auxiliary Police and regular Police
force. All members of the Bogota Auxiliary Police
receive basic training at the Bergen County Police Academy in Mahwah as well as
additional in-service training throughout the year. During the year, the members of the Auxiliary Police put
in several hundred hours to assist the Bogota Police Department during times of
emergency such as fires, accidents, power outages, etc. The
Auxiliary Police are also utilized by going on Patrol in the Borough and
assisting the regular patrol with checks of the schools, churches,
parks and other public areas in the Borough.
Residents of Bogota
as well as Teaneck, Ridgefield Park and Hackensack are eligible to
join. To be a member, you must be between the ages of 18 – 65, be
physically fit and able-bodied and must be able to perform the duties
of an Auxiliary Police Officer. The Roster
of Auxiliary Police consist of a Captain, 2 Sergeants, and several
Auxiliary Police Officers

Headquarters, 375 Larch Avenue. Upon acceptance of your application, a
background check will be conducted. If accepted as a new member, all
uniforms and equipment will be provided by the Organization. A yearly
clothing allowance is provided to maintain uniforms and equipment. All
members must attend a 52 hour Auxiliary Police Class given at the
Bergen County Police and Fire Academy in Mahwah, NJ.
