Location: Public Works Recycling Center
The Bogota Recycling Center has been
relocated to the DPW parking lot located behind the DPW building at the corner
of East Fort Lee Road and Leonia Avenue. For further Information, contact the
Recycling Office Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (201) 487-1041
The Bogota Recycling Center has been
relocated to the DPW parking lot located behind the DPW building at the corner
of East Fort Lee Road and Leonia Avenue. This new location will make operation
of the center less expensive as it will be closer to DPW staff and
supervisors. The move has the added advantages of creating additional parking
at the recreation center in Olsen Park as well as enhancing the look of the
park.
I cannot stress enough the importance of
recycling to Bogota. The Borough saves $103.00 for every ton of recyclable
material taken out of the waste stream. In 1995 Bogota spent over $374,409.00
to dispose of 3,635 tons of solid waste. On the other hand, the Borough sells
it's recyclable material. Therefore, we not only save money by taking
recyclable material out of the garbage, we also make money when we resell the
material. The bottom line is the average taxpayer will see a big improvement
in their tax bill with every small increase in recycling.
Our new recycling agreement allows residents
to recycle all paper products including such items as cereal boxes and pizza
boxes as long as they are free of food matter. All card-board boxes and
containers must be broken down and bundled when left at the curb or the
recycling center. Basically, all paper based products can now be recycled as
long as they are free of food contamination and properly bundled. This will
result in a substantial increase in recycling. Remember, more recycling = less
taxes.
Thank you all! Mayor Pat McHale

When to Recycle?
Bogota provides a Once-A-Week pickup of recyclables by the Bogota Public Works Department. For information on the designated
day for your neighborhood, check the map below or contact the Bogota Recycling Office at
201-487-1041.
If your recycling day falls on Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year's
Day, your recyclables will be collected on the Saturday following that
holiday.
Backyard Composting:
The Recycling Advisory Committee encourages Backyard composting or
mulching. Composting is the natural process of decay or decomposition.
It is nature's way of recycling organic material into a rich soil amendment.
While the composting process occurs naturally in forests, it can also be
applied in backyards at minimal cost and effort.
- Compost builds soil structure and fertility which conserves water.
- Compost improves plant health by suppressing soil and plant diseases, thereby
eliminating reliance on toxic chemicals and pesticides.
- Compost adds nutrients which increases the quality of foods.
Leaf Recycling:
The State Recycling Act prohibits the landfilling of leaves. Leaves
(not including grass clippings or yard waste) will be collected curbside
in the spring and fall.
-
Fall Collection: October to
December
-
Spring Collection: April to
May
The actual pickup dates for neighborhoods will be advertised in the local
media (The Observer, Reporter, Channel 21, Adelphia Cable, WOBM and The
O. C. Review). If you do not compost, place leaves in plastic bags (preferably
clear bags) at curbside prior to the Monday of your collection week.
Community Groups:
Volunteer recycling programs affiliated with Civic Organizations, such
as Senior Clubs and Scouting Groups are encouraged; however, your group
must register with Bogota by contacting the Recycling Office.
Additional Information:
The Bogota Recycle Center is open to All Bogota Residents. Only cars and pick-up trucks are allowed in the center.
