BOGOTA COMMUNITY GARDEN > COMMUNITY > COMMUNITY GARDEN > The Bogota Community Garden is located in Veteran's Park on River Road near the intersection of the West Fort Lee Road. The Bogota Community Garden (a division of the Environmental Commission) is the highest authority at the Bogota Community Garden. The following are the rules and guidelines for gardeners at the Bogota Community Garden. Bogota's Community Garden Rules Bogota Community Garden will provide.. 4 X 6 plots ( larger ones to be constructed) Fencing around the exterior of the entire garden Rain Barrels, composting area, shed for tools and benches for relaxing Rules and regulations will be provided to each renter and posted inside the shed Plot Maintenance Expectations Gardeners must maintain plots (including adjacent aisles) throughout the growing season If, for any reason (health, vacation, work pressure), you will be temporarily unable to maintain your plot or throughout the season, inform the coordinator. If you have a substitute gardener, inform the Community Garden Committee via email at bogotacommunitygarden@gmail.com . Abandoned plots will be reassigned. Plots are on a first come, first served with a maximum of 2 plots per household. At the end of the season, all dead plants and weeds must be removed. This garden adheres to organic growing practices. Do not use synthetic chemical pesticides or fertilizers like miracle-Gro. If you are not sure if something is allowed, please check with another gardener or email the community garden committee at bogotacommunitygarden@gmail.com . If used, you forfeit your plot. Refrain from excessive interior fencing and edging Adjacent Paths and Borders (mulch or grass) is what is used in the pathways. You are responsible for maintaining the pathways, via weeding, etc around your plot. You must keep the path by your plot clear of weeds, rocks, garden plants and other obstacles. Each gardener is responsible for their own trash removal. Miscellaneous Vegetables and plants grown from your plot may not be sold for personal profit. Radios. Should you wish to listen to the radio, please use headphones as not to disturb the other gardeners. Garden gates. The gates should remain closed at all times. Please make sure it is securely closed. No Vehicles are allowed on the garden or park property. Keep the Garden Committee advised of your current address and telephone number by notifying them via email at bogotanjcommunitygarden@gmail.com . Keep the garden attractive for neighboring residents and safe for all. Gardener Meetings There will be two mandatory meetings with the gardeners. One in the month of May for the start of the growing season and one in October for the end of the season. The Bogota Community Garden committee will meet once every other month on the fourth Wednesday of that month. Warnings and Penalties If you fail to follow any of the above guidelines, the community garden community will contact you. All gardeners are required to keep their plots as disease and weed free as possible. Complaints, policies and mediations are the responsibility of the Bogota community garden committee. Read Green Purchasing Policy Shade Tree Work Application Link Shade Tree Work Permit Application Enviromental Commission Description The Environmental Commission has the responsibility to study and make recommendations for open space preservation, trails, water resource management, storm water regulations, pollution control, solid waste management, noise control, landmark trees and tree preservation, environmental appearance, soil, landscapes, flora and fauna and review applications which impact the aforementioned. While the Recreation Commission oversees active parks such as ball fields and tennis courts and the Shade Tree Commission oversees street trees, the Environmental Commission oversees all passive parks in the Borough, and other properties throughout the Borough. The Environmental Commission shall also conduct research and coordinate activities pertaining to the use and potential use of open land areas, include recommendations for acquisitions of open space. The Environmental Commission is also charged with teaching the community to respect our trees and open spaces and to encourage residents and the local government to make responsible environmental decisions. Multi-tasking, effective communication skills and computer proficiency a must. Under the supervision of the Borough Administrator, the Recreation Director is responsible for the development, implementation and promotion of activities and community events within the Borough as well as the main point of contact to our sport/recreation associations. The Director will also be responsible for managing and maintaining recreation facilities, including allocating field time to the various organizations that use the facilities. Olsen Park West Main Street Extension Originally known as Riverside Park, this park was established in the early 1950s under the guidance of Councilman Oscar E. Olsen, who also served as Mayor of Bogota from January 1956 through April 1956. The park was dedicated to his memory soon after. Sgt Frank Pagano Park Queen Anne Road at Beechwood and Elmwood Avenues Sergeant Frank Pagano grew up in Bogota and was veteran of World War II. In Korea, he was a member of the 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines, 1st Marine Division. He was seriously wounded while fighting the enemy house to house in Seoul, South Korea and died of those wounds on September 26, 1950. Petrik Park Leonia Avenue at East Broad Street Originally known as Frank Mills Park, named in honor of Bogota's oldest resident in 1969, this park was re-dedicated as Vincent F. Petrik Park in 2006. Mr. Petrik was a devoted volunteer, businessman and friend of many in Bogota for over 30 years in the 1970s - 2000s.

There were activates for all who attended. St Joseph's Church Choir together with local Girl Scouts provided some festive music and song. Santa, who was escorted to the event by members of the Bogota Volunteer Fire Department, joined Mrs. Claus who lit the seasonal tree Ground Breaking Ceremony for Field Improvements Friday October 4, 2024 “On Friday October 4th, the Bogota Board of Education hosted their Groundbreaking Ceremony for their Referendum Project to rebuild Fiegel Field, the Olsen Park Baseball and Softball Fields, and updates to park areas surrounding the fields. Board of Education President Frank Miranda and Superintendent of Schools Damian Kennedy addressed attendees on behalf of the School District and their incredible project. Mr. Miranda paid special thanks to the Borough, and its Board of Education Council Liaisons Councilwoman Lisa Kohles and Councilman John Mitchell for their efforts and collaboration in helping this project become a reality for the Board of Education and for the residents of the Borough. Mr. Miranda emphasized the importance of providing proper facilities for the youth of Bogota and the unity of both organizations to make changes that will benefit the entire community. The Council Liaisons were joined by Mayor Daniele Fede, Councilwoman Diana Vergara, Councilman Rob Robbins, and Councilman Pat McHale. Please stay tuned for more exciting things taking place in Bogota!” Click each photo to enlarge Annual Easter Egg Hunt Saturday, March 30, 2024 On Saturday March 30, the Borough hosted its Annual Easter Egg Hunt for the residents of Bogota. The event included a promising showing from families of the community and was facilitated by event staff volunteers including Mayor Daniele Fede, Council President Connie Carpenter, Councilwoman Lisa Kohles, Councilman Rob Robbins, Councilman Pat McHale, and several members of the Borough’s REC Committee. Members of the Borough’s Department of Public Works and Police Department were present to help setup and run this event under the direction of our Rec Department. The Borough was even able to pull a few strings and secure a visit from our special guest, the Easter Bunny! A special thanks to our long-time friend and beloved REC Director Mr. Jim Moore for all of his work on a yet another successful hunt. This will be Jim’s final Easter Egg Hunt as Director of Recreation for the Borough, Jim plans to stepdown later this month, and enjoy his retirement with his family. I’m sure it goes without saying that Jim will always hold a special place in our hearts, and his commitment to the this community will never be forgotten. Jim will still assist the Borough’s Rec Department in a part-time role, and as Senior Citizen Coordinator going forward. Thank you to all who came out and celebrated with us! Click each photo to enlarge Read Across America Thursday, March 8, 2024 Mayor Daniele Fede was invited as the special guest reader at Bixby Elementary School as part of the Read Across America Program that is celebrated annually this week throughout the nation. The Mayor was greeted with warm welcome from Ms. Bayan’s First Grade Class, where student’s enjoyed Mayor Fede’s rendition of “This is My Town,” by Mercer Mayer which proved to be a popular choice with her young audience. The Mayor was also a guest speaker this week for Bogota High School’s Career Day, where she discussed her experience and accomplishment’s as one of NJ’s Top Environmental Attorneys.
